Dithmarschen Museumscape

Landesmuseum“Visit – Discover – Be Amazed”. A voyage of discovery into art, culture and history between Hamburg and the island of Sylt.

Dithmarschen has a very interesting and often independent past, as well as a remarkable and culturally rich present. Both can be experienced in the “Dithmarschen Museumscape”, which has been initiated by the district of Dithmarschen as part of the museum marketing campaign.

The “Dithmarschen Museumscape” opens up a new cultural panorama. The broad spectrum of attractive museums is clearly displayed via the joint advertising umbrella. It offers visitors and local people a comprehensive guide that helps in planning activities.

With their slogan “Visit – Discover – Be Amazed”, the Dithmarschen museums as a group are issuing a joint invitation to go on a voyage of discovery into art, culture and history.

The wide variety of tours in the “Dithmarschen Museumscape” represent a colourful kaleidoscope. Depending on their preferences and interests, visitors can follow in the footsteps of seafarers between Brunsbüttel, Meldorf and Büsum, or go to Albersdorf to experience everyday life in the region at the time of the Egyptian pharaohs.

The farmers’ republic of Dithmarschen, also called the “Switzerland of the North”, has been a decisive factor in shaping European and Hanseatic history in the later Middle Ages. Great authors, such as the dramatist Friedrich Hebbel and the local writer Klaus Groth, have also left their mark on the country between the marshes and the sea – and they are certainly worth pursuing.

Nostalgia is conjured up with a walk through everyday life in Dithmarschen in the 19th and 20th centuries. This everyday life has been preserved and presented for posterity in the “Dithmarschen Museumscape”.
